Stroud Chapel was built in 1762 (enlarged 1796) as a Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion chapel. It is the oldest surviving octagonal chapel built by the Methodist movement, though it has functioned as a Salvation Army citadel since 1879. John Wesley preached at'the Round House' (between 1765 and 1790), as did General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army.

Stroud Chapel is now known as Meeting Space Stroud and is owned by the Salvation Army.
