Opened in 1860, this chapel commemorated the founder of the 'Methodist New Connexion', Alexander Kilham, who was born in Epworth in 1762. (It replaced the former Providence Methodist New Connexion Chapel, now used for commercial purposes.)

The Methodist New Connexion was one of the 19th century movements or denominations into which Methodism divided after Wesley's death, but largely reunited in 1932.

This chapel is now closed to the public.
