Founded in London in 1851 as Westminster College and moved to present site outside Oxford in 1959 and merged with Oxford Brookes University in 2000. Important Methodist library and archives open to researchers. Wesley Historical Society Library and Westminster College archives relate to history and development of Methodism and other collections about the history of Methodism in the 20th century.


Several of the regional Methodist historical societies also have extensive library and archive collections. Notably, the library of the
Wesley Historical Society (Yorkshire) comprises over 16,000 items and is deposited as a Special Collection of the University of Huddersfield Archives, Queensgate, Huddersfield, HD1 3DH.


Similarly, the North East WHS collections are deposited at the "Lit & Phil" Library in Newcastle and those of the Cornish MHS with the Royal Institute at Redruth.
