From this small landing place near the mouth of the River Avon, Francis Asbury set sail for America in 1771 and Thomas Coke in 1784. A marker on the green was erected in 1984.
The plaque reads :
Francis Asbury in 1771 and Thomas Coke in 1784 and other Methodist preachers sailed from here for America. Erected to mark the bicentennial of the Methodist Episcopal Church, USA, in 1984.
